Scandinavian Style – A Serene, Simplified Life at your Big-Sur Bungalow. Vintage Danish Modern pieces with their simple, flowing lines and subdued yet elegant attitude blend with the rough-hewn, organic studio-crafted redwood bench to create a coastal cool meets modern bohemian space. The zig-zag neutral rug in tones of chocolate brown, pale green and melon look like an abstraction of blowing sand dunes and add texture under foot. Swedish art deco vases in a variety of green glazes add subtle, earthy pops of color and a strong form to the vignette. Finnish designer Tapio Wirkkala's stunning pendent chandelier adds a wonderful warm glow over the Milo Baughman Scoop Chairs. DGoods' Block Party Snap Ottoman and the Yosemite Pillow, both in hemp, and Stan Bitter's Thumb Pot add texture to the mix. The Greta Grossman Grasshopper lamp adds whimsy and functionality as the perfect reading companion.

DECO THROUGH THE DECADES – With the release of Director Baz Luhrman’s take on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s great American Novel “The Great Gatsby” – the Art Deco aesthetic is all the rage. This visual design style – at the forefront of the prosperous roaring 20’s, makes the perfect backdrop for the vintage Bauhaus, 60's, 70’s and 80’s pieces in this sophisticated home office interior. The bold geometric shapes, vivid color palette and exuberance of the period can transform an ordinary room into an inspiring inviting workspace with fashionable flair. Benjamin Moore’s sophisticated color options provide the spirit and vitality to create a fresh upbeat interior. If your taste leans towards the traditional – add decorative crown molding painted in hi-gloss White Dove (Benjamin Moore). Modern and minimal more your style, replace the hand painted wall covering with a solid accent wall in matte Gulf Shores or Oriole (Benjamin Moore) paint. Designer Kim Hayden Holt loves to combine curated vintage pieces from select decades to create an inspiring, modern and sophisticated workspace. Playing with a mixture of matte and gloss finishes again adds depth and interest to the space - even within a monochromatic environment... visual proof that design, style and comfort can harmoniously co-exist.
The Bauhaus era sofa boasts pill shaped arms in bent chrome, reinforcing the strong elliptical shape of the 80’s double sided white lacquered desk with chrome trim . The reupholstered 70’s Knoll chairs add a bold pop of persimmon to the scheme and are perfectly accented by the Zulu Pillows in a fresh emerald green , Pantone’s 2013 Color of the Year. The vintage black and white striped kilim rug adds visual interest and directionality underfoot. The wall mounted Sol Hooks are great for hanging jackets or handbags in style. The 30’s Art Deco male and female bust bookends are mounted on a rectangular blond wood base paying homage to the style. Abstract expressionist Al Held’s 1966 ink on paper adds a hard edged, kinetic energy to the space. For meetings and afternoon brainstorming sessions add the Anything Goes Platter and Let’s Take a Dip Bowls for snacking with a punch.

Fresh off a jaunt from the Coachella Music Festival... transform an interior by incorporating threads from the past with personal life experiences to create an authentic, inviting space. DGoods designer Kim Hayden Holt believes, "the best way to create a successful interior space is to infuse a bit of 'you' in the details." This eclectic modern scheme incorporates rich, earthy neutral tones with pops of color. Layered with luxe materials, leather, hemp, shearling and wood – elements that are naturally beautiful by instinct. The grouping mixes tactile textures, glossy and matte finishes, and geometric form, to bring a relaxed vibe and bold sense of style to the space.
The low profile of the 60’s armchairs by Brazilian designer, Percival Lafer reflect the ground level glam of the Coachella Series Poufs . The textural, organic 70’s coffee table is sheathed in tobacco leaves and finished with a high gloss acrylic. “Sunspots” the sputnik wall mounted sculpture by C. Jere is a focal point, enriching the grouping with its own copper and bronze brilliance. Benjamin Moore’s, Artisan - 2013 Color Trend is the perfect palette for walls, accent walls, and trim. The palette’s warm comforting colors are the ideal neutrals to blend the vintage and contemporary pieces. The textural faux finished wall is a hand-applied glaze – additionally there are wallcoverings available that convey a similar aesthetic. The circle is a unifying geometric element in the space – seen in the stitched hide rug, the mid-century modern Saarinen side table , the C. Jere sculpture and the shape of the pouf cushions themselves. Graphic lines in the decorative accessories, the Yosemite Pillows and Anything Goes Platter add movement and directionality to the scheme. A Harry Bertoia original “Bush” sculpture from the 50’s is a coveted museum worthy addition to the space.
